About Linton & Kay

Linton & Kay Galleries, under the Directorship of Linton Partington and Gary Kay, represent a stable of quality visual art professionals including exciting early-, mid- and late-career artists from Western Australia and the Eastern States.

In 2024, Linton & Kay launched a new gallery space as part of the new ‘Waterfront Cottesloe’ development on Marine Parade. This new venture overlooks the Indian Ocean and will primarily showcase curated themed exhibitions to Linton & Kay’s valued coastal clientele.

Our work

We were thrilled to be brought into the fold by renowned designer, Andrew Thornton Hick. Our part of the project was to make the reception desk, which was conceived by Andrew as an elegant statement piece that was both inviting and intriguing upon entry to the gallery.

Andrew’s design involved a flowing curved form clad with solid Oak flutes, every second one of which was carved away to match a topological data point along a walk down Gibney Street, to which the gallery is adjacent. The carved section of each flute was precision made in-house on our CNC machine and then fitted in place along the curved profile of the base structure. The strong sharknose underbevel of the desk top was contoured at several points along its perimeter to a flat so as to meet flush with the form of the fluted base. A custom stain over American Oak was applied to work within the specified colour palette selected by Andrew for the complete gallery fit-out.

The desk offers an internal shelf and two flute-fronted drawers to stow away items and keep things tidy. Conceived as a multipurpose piece, the desk is on heavy duty lockable castors to enable it to double as a surface for presenting artists’ works on exhibition and for serving food and drinks at client events.
