About
The clients had purchased their forever home, a 1930s red brick character home. Their plan was to undertake a staged curation of beautiful handmade furniture in a timeless style so as to pay respect to the age and style of the property as it was built, and be a bridge to the modern extension and renovation for a future date.
Our work
Bed frame in French Oak, dresser in WA reclaimed Tuart, media cabinet in French Oak, Treble stools, and a bench seat in Spotted Gum. The reeding detailed fronts and curved sides of the media cabinet were clearly the major design element of the piece. The doors were painstakingly manufactured with shop made thick veneer fronts and backs so as to take the 4mm deep scalloped profile. The use of thick veneers pressed onto a manufactured substrate (like a sandwhich) made for a much more dimensionally stable cabinet front that resists twisting and bowing for the decades the piece will be in service. Another lovely detail was the integrated finger pulls in the drawer fronts, recessed with a chamfered lip to offer as a neat way to open the drawer.
