Mount coffee table
The project
As the name suggests, Mount St runs up the side of a steep hill leading up from the edge of the City into Kings Park. Walkers, runners and other intrepid souls can be watched undertaking feats of endurance, pain and achievement all throughout the morning, over a lovely cup of coffee at the local Mount Street coffee shop. The client for this piece was situated in one of the graceful apartment complexes that flanks the ongoings on Mount Street.
Our work
The coffee table is a simple piece that was made to match some existing furniture in the client’s home. Particular inspiration was taken from the arm rests of the arm chair, which were in the form of two even planks with gentle curves, resembling pillows. The concept of the coffee table was to bring those two forms together and recess them slightly into a frame, making up a split top coffee table. The leg joinery method was a bridle joint which offered excellent strength and a striking visual appeal.
